Built on a 20x20 foot lot, the only direction the Ablitt Tower could go was up. The client’s only requests were that there be a place for wine and books, and that the stove would be blue.

A small house inspired by all of the great artists in the world who have built their homes out of bottles, used materials and found objects, while disregarding norms. This project relied on having faith in hundreds of people showing up to paint a scene from their life, and was specifically inspired by Sanford Darling’s House of 1000 Paintings (look it up.)

This Mixed Use project is designed as a series of courtyards surrounded by dwellings, each with a giant blue rolling door. The layout is based on the idea of semi-public open rooms to be used for home studios or offices.

A home with a baby cow on the roof. It’s a long story.
A home added to an existing historic office building, wedged into the narrow leftover space on the lot. We also wedged a 40 foot date palm from Indio into the interior courtyard.

Nestled in an avocado orchard, Jeff designed the house at Sweet Shade Farm based on hay barns and farm buildings. The house is full of natural light provided by large doors and windows that are meant to be kept open during the day to take advantage of Santa Barbara's temperate climate and provide fresh breezes. The siding, beams, rafter and joists are all reclaimed wood, and the first floor is wood-framed and adobe brick, with the adobe made on site.
